Lenten Begins February 22ndPlease join us in the Sanctuary on Wednesday
![]() evenings at 7 pm during the penitential season of
Lent as we reflect on the ancient Old Testament
tabernacle.
In John 5:39 our Lord Jesus tells His
people, You search the Scriptures because you
think that in them you have eternal life; and it is
they that bear witness about me. Even the Old
Testament Tabernacle bears witness about Christ. Just
as the Lord tabernacled - or dwelt - with His people in
the Old Testament times, so in Christ Jesus, our Lord
tabernacles or dwells with us today.
Join together with your brothers and sisters in Christ as we reflect on:
The Tabernacle Itself and the Gate, The place where God meets with His people
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.” (John 10:9 )
The Bronze (Brazen) Altar - Blood Sacrifice
“We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. …By one sacrifice
he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. …And where these have been forgiven, there is
no longer any sacrifice for sin.” (Hebrews 10:10 , 14, 18)
The Bronze Laver or Basin - The place of cleansing
“…Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with
water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any
other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5:25-27 )
The Table of Showbread - The Bread of Life
“I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be
thirsty. … Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down
from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.” (John 6:35 , 49-50)
The Lamp Stand - The Light of the World
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of
life.” (John 8:12 )
The Altar of Incense - Christ, our Intercessor
“Christ Jesus, who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also
interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34 )
Ark of the Covenant - Christ, our Mediator
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to
help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 )
